Road Safety – Birdwood Lane

20 Apr 21

Dear Parents,

We have received the below email from Lane Cove Council.

If you have any further questions, please contact Simone & Val at RoadSafety@lanecove.nsw.gov.au

Good afternoon,

Council has received a number of complaints about drivers using the Shared Zone on Birdwood Lane to drop off and pick up children attending Lane Cove Dance Academy.

As Council’s Road Safety Officers, we look to encourage behavioural change through education.  We are hoping that you will be able to send your Dance Academy families an email reminding them about their rights and responsibilities in ensuring the safety of all users of the space, particularly as it is getting darker earlier.

It is important to note that dropping-off and picking-up passengers is not permitted along Birdwood Lane (the Shared Zone).  There are designated Loading Zones which are strictly for the use of delivery drivers and are not to be used by members of the public.  There are a number of convenient parking options around Lane Cove with the closest being The Canopy.

Rangers have been asked to monitor the area with fines issued to offenders for:

Stopping in a No Stopping zone:  $272, and

Stopping in a Loading zone:  $194.

Please encourage your parents/carers to model safe Road Safety behaviour as children learn by watching and copying others.

If there is anything we can do to help you improve Road Safety within your community please feel free to get in touch.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Simone and Val
