Why are concert rehearsals so important?

Unlike many dance schools where each class presents an individual dance, Lane Cove Dance Academy present a full story, where each student has an important role.

Saturday 22nd November for Tiny Tots, Pre-Ballet & Pre-Jazz students and Performance Groups.

Sunday 23rd November for All other students.

Our first full school rehearsal at LCDA is the first time we run our production in full.

Students have the opportunity to;

  • perform their dance for an audience for the first time (LCDA teachers & students)
  • watch the other dances in their scene
  • meet main characters & older students they may be dancing with
  • familiarise themselves with the dances before and after theirs
  • build friendships with other students outside their class.

This rehearsal is important for teachers to make sure;

  • every student’s costume and accessories are fitting properly
  • audio and visuals are working
  • they are aware of where each student starts and finishes their dance
  • students have enough time & help to change costumes, if they are dancing in more than one piece
  • the whole production runs smoothly

If we require students to perform any roles outside of their class dance, it is at this rehearsal where these students are selected.

Saturday 13th December Tiny Tots, Pre-Ballet & Pre-Jazz students.

Tuesday 9th December for All other students.

Our compulsory rehearsal at Glen Street Theatre on is the last practice for all classes. Final notes will be given at this rehearsal as well as any adjustments that might need to be made for the stage.

At our venue, Glen Street Theatre has been able to accommodate our five shows and rehearsal day. Unfortunately, this rehearsal has had to be held on a school day and we hope in the future we will be able to hold this rehearsal out of school hours.

This rehearsal is very important for all students to practice their dance on stage. Stages are unfamiliar, big spaces with bright lights, where the audience is in the dark. It can be quite disorientating for dancers of all ages without a proper stage rehearsal. Students also need this rehearsal to practice running on and off stage through the big black ‘wings’.

When students are not practicing their role, they are able to watch other dances from the audience.

For younger students theatres can sometimes be dark, confusing spaces. We use this rehearsal to not only practice on stage but to familiarise students with backstage areas and change rooms so they feel comfortable on their performance day.

It is expected that all students attend both rehearsals. You must notify us immediately if your child is not attending so teachers can make sure they do not have an important leadership role in their dance that may disrupt the class if they are not present.

At this time of year, dance at LCDA is a team sport. We hope that everyone can commit to their class mates and Lane Cove Dance Academy, to bring you an amazing end of year show.
